As I've said many times before, the fifties was a simpler decade. Or was it? Racism splotched the silver lining of society
back then. "Colored People", as they were called had separate everything-water fountains, enterances, and even places
on the bus. Then there was MartinLuther King Jr. He shook some sense in our world. He caused what we know as the end of racism.
We're now 50 years ahead. We have computers, mp3 players, and DVD's. Could racism still be around? As you know, I wouldn't
write all this if there wasn't racism anymore. So, of course, there's racism.
Now, let's take a road trip-a road trip to Montoursville, PA, population 12,000. It's a pretty slow moving town where
the biggest store is a Wal-Mart. Could many people here be racist?
Montoursville has 1 school district with 4 schools, each housing about 600-700 students. In all there are about 10 African
American people. This is microscopic compared to the neighboring school district, Williamsport, which is made up of mostly
blacks.
No one knows exactly why this town in the middle of nowhere has so little blacks. Many people say it's because of racism.
All I know is that this town is housing exactly what Martin Luther King Jr. tried to stop so long ago.
