Oh, the wonder that is the public school system. So loving, caring, and institutionalized. I'm sorry to tell you, but there
are some major flaws in those walls that could be scarring the world as we know it.
School brings back such nostalgia to those who are already through it, and such pain to those who aren't. Waking up a
6:30 to go to a building where they FORCE you to learn is not my idea of a cup of tea. The fact of the matter, as many of
these factors are our fault, some of them are not.
I think, at the core of the problem are the PSSA tests. Teachers have been teaching soley so we do well on the tests,
not so we know the information. The schools have become obsessed with a number: a grade.
Gone are the days when kids studied because they wanted to learn the subject. The days where kids cram for a test and
then quickly forget the information are here to stay.
Frankly, this is sad. School is supposed to be preparation for life. The way things are going, when the kids grow up,
they will know nothing about life. I'm sorry to say, but life does not have to do, at all, with a number.
If we don't do something about this now, there could be serious consequences. It's true that each generation gets smarter
than the next. Could this generation to be the first to learn less than their predescessors? The way it looks now, the answer
to that could be "YES".
Not only does it fall on the shoulders of the adminstration, but it also falls on the shoulders of the students. It's
their school. School, for them, is what they make of it.
So a change needs to be made. If there is no change, the "Digital Generation" could become the "Ignorant
Generation".
